So you may have stumbled on this OR you were redirected from the North River Geographic System website.

The QGIS class has been around about 12 years. It’s generally (except for about a year) been taught in person and was targeted at ESRI software users who were interested in adding or replacing existing software. Teaching in person has been an experience as I’ve taught:

  • Health Departments
  • 911 and Law Enforcement
  • Local Governments
  • Government Agencies like USDA, and USGS
  • Private Companies
  • Independent Professionals

So i tried to take a 12 year class and take all the questions and cook up an online class that you can take at your leisure for $75 Dollars (US). What do we cover?

  • Introduction to QGIS
  • Editing
  • Geoprocessing Tools
  • A little bit of 3D
  • Plugins
  • Symbology

…….and a lot more. By the end you should be able to take data, edit it, symbolize it, and make a map. If you come into it “cold” with no GIS experience it may be a bit more for but anyone with GIS experience should be fine.

There is a lot of free training out there for QGIS. What I’m going to try with this non-free setup is keep it up to date and grow it beyond the basics of QGIS and introduce you to more Open Source GIS tools – like GDAL. So this is just the start.
